Summary
EPA 525.2 is used to determine the concentrations of Pesticides and other Semi-volatile Organic Compounds (SVOCs) in drinking water.
Pesticides and SVOCs are synthetic organic compounds controlled in drinking water under the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations.
Technique
EPA 525.2 is performed using solid-phase extraction (SPE) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometer (GC/MS) detection.
Holding Time
Samples have a 14-day holding time. Samples not extracted within this period must be discarded and replaced. Extracts may be stored in tightly capped vials at 4°C for up to 30 days.
Container and Preservative
Collect all samples in 1-L amber bottles which contain 50 mg of sodium sulfite. This dechlorinating agent must be added to each sample to avoid the possibility of reactions that may occur between residual chlorine and the target analytes.
Shipping/Transport Instructions
Samples must be chilled to 4°C when collected and maintained at that temperature until extracted. Field samples that will not be received at the laboratory on the day of collection must be packaged for shipment with sufficient ice to ensure that they will arrive at the laboratory with a substantial amount of ice remaining in the cooler.
